About the invited artists:

Pandit Santanu Bandyopadhyay of the Bishnupur Gharana will present light-classical vocals, representing the Durgotsab theme. He is the last exponent of the only classical Gharana from Bengal. Having performed all over the world he has developed a style that fits all generations. Santanu received  training in Hindusthani classical music from his late grandfather and father. He is a graduate and distinguished scholar and a gold medal recipient of the Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. He has since received many medals and prizes for his outstanding performances in India, as well as overseas. Presently he is a lecturer at the Rabindra Bharati University and a regular artist with All India Radio and Doordaarshan since 1982. He is also internationally known for his fusion music. Santanu, a regular visitor to the US , will perform MatriBandana as an abhahan to our new Protima.


Smt. Sanjukta Banerjee has recently come to the States accompanying her husband and lives in Michigan . A post graduate scholar of English Literature, Kolkata University, Sanjukta was initiated into classical dancing at a very tender age and has undergone rigorous training of Bharatanatyam and Mohiniattam under Guru Smt.Thankamani Kutty, a reputed disciple of Guru Chinnammu Amma of Kerala Kalamandalam. Sanjukta has also been under the tutelage of the great Kathakali maestro Late Guru P. Govindan Kutty, for special attention on Hastas and Abhinaya. She has also attended extensive workshops and lecture demonstrations under Bharati Shivaji, Chitra Vishwesharan & Dr. Kanak Rele. Recipient of many prestigious scholarships and awards, she is an examiner of the graduate and post graduate degree courses Of Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. Sanjukta will perform her favorite classical dance "Durga" to our CTBA members.  

The  unique attractions of this year’s celebration include:
-- Abahon - A Special puja and  a colorful  traditional welcoming ceremony by ladies unveiling the New Protima on Friday evening, in which all the ladies are being individually invited to take part
-- Programs by invited  renowned artists - Our own now famous “Utpat Natya Gohsti” and “Samakal Band”
-- “Tiny-Tots” and “Junior - Flair” Fashion Parade
-- Fine catered meals and snacks on both days

*Puja contributions:
There is only one contribution package that covers all the events on Friday and Saturday. The contributions include:

-- Membership to Central Texas Bengali Association
-- Durga Puja (Special inauguration puja, 3 major meals, 2 snacks)
-- Invited artists from India and Michigan
-- Superb programs by  local talents
-- Dhrubotara magazine with member directory
-- Laxmi Puja, dinner and entertainment: Free to all registered members (To be celebrated on October 26 2007, Venue will be announced soon)

Early Bird:

This year  we have decided to offer an early bird option to our members for the two days of celebration, meals and cultural programs. This will help the members to save and allow us to have an early estimate and provide fine catered meals for your enjoyment.

Early Bird registration:
Kindly RSVP  by October 5, 2007 with checks payable to CTBA and mail to, CTBA,  3814 Azur Lane , Round Rock, Texas 78681. A self addressed envelope will be enclosed with the invitation letter to the membership.
